HAVE A SAFE & FUN HALLOWEEN
Both kid’s and grown ups alike look forward to this night of bewitching fun. We offer some tips to ensure your haunting good time stays that way.
PLANNING
- It’s wise to have children under the age of 12 be supervised by and adult.
- If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in a group.
- For older unsupervised children make it clear which areas are OK and map out the area.
- If invited into a home of someone you do not know, respond “No thank you!” and be on your way.
STREET SAFETY
- Put your phone down and keep your head up and walk, don’t run, across the street.
- Cross streets at the corners, use the crosswalks – never cross between parked cars.
- Look both left and right, and then left again when crossing – keep looking as you cross.
- Keep an eye out for cars that are turning or backing up, never dart out into the street.
COSTUME TIPS
- Choose makeup over masks whenever possible. Masks can obstruct a child’s vision.
- When choosing a costume, check to make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.
- Light colored costumes are more easily seen at night.
SEE/BE SEEN
- Glow sticks or flashlights are a good way to help them see and be seen by drivers.
- Decorate bags and costumes with reflective tape or stickers and if possible, choose light colors.
CANDY CHECK
- When sorting through the candy at the end of the night, throw away any candy that is not in its original wrapper, or looks as though it has been opened.
