Job Title: Shift Manager
FLSA Status: Hourly

Position Summary

The Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing daily store operations during assigned shifts while providing exceptional customer service and leadership to all store employees. This position ensures efficient operations across multiple departments, maintains a clean and fully stocked sales floor, supports employees, and assists with customer concerns. The Shift Manager serves as the acting manager on duty and helps ensure company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures are consistently followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

• Serve as the Manager on Duty during assigned shifts.
• Supervise and support employees across all store departments.
• Lead by example through professionalism, teamwork, and outstanding customer service.
• Assign daily work tasks and ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently.
• Provide training and guidance to new and existing employees.
• Monitor employee performance and provide constructive feedback.
• Ensure adequate staffing and assist with break and lunch coverage.
• Communicate important information to department managers and store leadership.

Customer Service

• Deliver exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
• Resolve customer questions, concerns, and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
• Assist customers in locating products and answering questions throughout the store.

Store Operations

• Oversee overall store operations to ensure departments are operating efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shopping environment.
• Ensure company policies, safety procedures, and food safety standards are followed.
• Monitor store conditions and address operational issues as they arise.

Stocking & Merchandising

• Stock shelves, coolers, and displays as needed throughout the store.
• Ensure shelves remain full, organized, and properly faced throughout each shift.
• Rotate merchandise using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices.
• Build and maintain attractive product displays and promotional endcaps.
• Maintain backroom organization and ensure products are stored safely.

Cash Handling

• Supervise front-end operations and cashier performance.
• Open and close cash registers as needed.
• Oversee accurate cash handling and register balancing.
• Assist with cash pickups, deposits, and other cash office functions following company procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist in various departments as business needs require.
• Support special promotions, seasonal merchandising, and store events.
• Perform other duties as assigned by store management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of retail or grocery experience preferred.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer and cash register proficiency.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
• Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently bend, squat, kneel, reach, and climb ladders.
• Work in refrigerated, freezer, and outdoor conditions as needed.
• Ability to safely operate pallet jacks and other store equipment after proper training.

Compensation: Pay based on experience.
