WORKING WITH A TIGHT BUDGET?

When working with a budget, it can be overwhelming when walking into a grocery store. There are so many options to choose from – different brands, good deals, or shocking prices. Don’t panic! Make shopping easier by following these tips and guidelines.

Hungry? Do NOT shop! You are more likely to make impulse purchases and buy more than you had planned.

Check for store specials. Sign up with Viking Village Foods to receive their store discounts and specials. There are coupons in the ads to save you even more money!

Make a list and stick to it! Keep a running list of items you may need or are running low on. This will be helpful so you don’t forget anything but also keeps you from purchasing more items than you need.

Organize your list for the layout of the store. Keep sections on your list according to the store’s layout. For example, list all produce together and do the same for baking items, frozen foods, etc.

Buy produce in season. When purchasing produce during its season, you are saving on costs. You can go a step further and freeze the seasonal produce to save yourself some mega bucks.

Embrace whole grains or beans. These foods are inexpensive, add fiber to your meals, and are a tasty way to bulk up a meal.
